Perfect Weather

I went on a walk today. Currently, the weather is perfect with the temperature being 72°, and the sun shining warm on my shoulders accompanied with a cool breeze to keep everything just right. Everywhere I look there are azaleas blooming and the newness green of spring is on the tips of every tree. It’s breathtaking really.

It's funny how sometimes our moods don't match the weather. Nevertheless, the Lord has given us this beautiful creation so that we can open our eyes and our hearts to what He's doing. As I was walking and praying for some people in my life that are walking through hard seasons, all I could think was “He makes all things new” which is a verse found in Revelation 21:5. Some days I wonder what that means, other days I understand it completely.

One thing I am beginning to understand is that our poor attitudes, the anxieties we carry, worries we grasp tightly, and simple joy we lack is a choice. The faults we tend to dwell on, the worries that we carry on our shoulders, the pain we try to relive… as believers, it's all a choice.

Because if we know Jesus, we have the ability to throw off all of these troubles and all of these worries onto a faithful God who cares and sees and who is actually in control. Psalm 55:22 is a command that tells us, "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken."

If He loves us enough to send us these blooming azaleas, these perfect 72° days, and the newness of spring every year, then He is absolutely big enough to take care of whatever it is that weighs us down.

So today I'm going to fight for my mood to match this perfect weather; to feel carefree and light. To be thankful for all the many blessings I am practically drowning in… to lay my worries and problems, my anxieties and stresses at the feet of my Savior.

Because after all, the choice is all mine.

"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know" Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV).
